Obama has a new ad out, titled “Hands”.
It’s a great clip, fast-paced, positive. I don’t think it is a stretch to suggest an echo here of Hart Crane’s use of “hands” as metaphors for the lower-case-d democratic spirit. Hands are our common tools, our basic points of connection. From “The Harbor Dawn”:
While myriad snowy hands are clustering at the panes—
your hands within my hands are deeds;
